What is Little Red Stool?
Little Red Stool is a Saigon-based food & drinks blog. It’s here to shine a light on some of the best things to eat & drink, explain what makes them special and let you know where to get them. Saigon is a big city with a food culture that’s thriving, diverse and omnipresent: there are hundreds of dishes to try and thousands of places to sample them. This blog is just a window into the wonderful world of food and drink here.
For me, food has been a way of discovering Vietnamese culture, traditions, language and lifestyle. Where possible, I’ve tried to document that in my articles. Everything is written from my personal perspective as a British expat living and working in Ho Chi Minh City*.
Little Red Stool focuses mostly on street-food as it’s the heart of Vietnamese food culture. Street stalls here are constantly moving, changing appearing and disappearing, however, which makes stuff a little challenging. Where possible I’ve written about locations that I deem to be more permanent but if you find a eatery is missing or closed, please let me know.
Who is Little Red Stool?
Hi, I’m Scott Moyse. I’m a wheat-intolerant, food-loving coffee addict with a travel addiction. After around 10 months of overindulging myself on Vietnamese food, I decided to document some of my favourite dishes and places. Currently, everything you see on Little Red Stool is created by little old me; that means photography, writing, websitey stuff, graphic design and everything in-between.

*I’m out of town
2020 has been a pretty crazy year. In mid March, after 2 months not working because of school closures in Saigon, I headed home to visit my family for a few weeks and attend a wedding. Almost immediately Vietnam shut its international borders and I’ve been stranded in the UK ever since.
Having been reluctantly forced to take a hiatus from slurping down bowls of phở and scoffing down sticky rice pancakes I’ve decided to put this blog on pause until my return. Here’s hoping 2021 will bring us all more luck; in the meantime I’ve left the site live for anyone bored or interested enough to have a read. Enjoy!
