Bột Chiên 51

When you have a craving for unhealthy food, there are few things that will hit the spot quite like bột chiên. A greasy mess of deep-fried rice squares, egg and spring onions, swimming in soy sauce and topped off with a serving of unripe papaya to help you to pretend that it’s kind of healthy. Yum.

As with all fried food, it’s hard go far wrong with bột chiên. Still, some spots just get everything right. Bột Chiên 51 is one of those places.

Tucked neatly away in the front of a small house in the southwest of Bình Thạnh, this tiny restaurant bares all the signs of a good street-food spot: unglamorous, slightly hidden, dirty and constantly busy.

The staff work fast, frying up food for the never-ending stream of customers. They remain friendly and welcoming, always serving with a smile.

The bột chiên here is crispy and flavoursome. It comes with a big mound of papaya to help your poor stomach try to soak up some of that oil. I would happily eat here every day if only my arteries would allow it. One serving with 2 eggs will set you back just 26k VND.

You can find Bột Chiên 51 at 51 Nguyễn Văn Lạc, Phường 21, Bình Thạnh, Hồ Chí Minh. It’s open every day from around 2-10pm. Be sure to check our food map below for more accurate locations.
