Sometimes, when the bustle and noise of city life gets a bit too much, I find myself needing to escape to somewhere quiet and green. Without straying too far from the centre, you’ll be hard pushed to find anywhere as calming as Cú Trên Cây.
In the north of Bình Thạnh, sheltered behind a wall of flora, sits this quiet, city cafe. Tucked so stealthily behind the accompanying plant shop that one would only likely stumble upon it by accident, this little hideout is a portal out of the city.
Once inside, everyone you look you’re reminded of nature. The walls and furniture are hand-carved from wood and exotic plants litter every surface. The resident pet, a very cute rabbit, hops around in his hutch and pauses for strangers to pet him. The cafe has the feel of wacky, modern, fairytale-esque cottage.
Here you won’t find the blaring music or roar of traffic that is archetypal of Saigon’s cafe scene. Just friendly staff, a homely atmosphere, tasty smoothies and a hell of a lot of foliage. There are few better places to sit back, enjoy a cà phê đá and hide away from all of Saigon’s craziness.
