If you were to ask me for my favourite vegetarian restaurant is Saigon, it wouldn’t take me long to answer. Metta offers beautifully presented, delicious food with a great atmosphere at a reasonable price.

Saigon has no shortage of veggie options but it’s easy to get tired of the same old fake meats and noodle soup replicas that make up the menu at most chay joints. At Metta you’ll find good quality, non-imitation, veggie dishes that don’t leave you wondering what the hell they used instead of beef.

The food is still, for the most part, quintessentially Vietnamese. The menu is comprised mostly of well-crafted, veggie twists on traditional classics with a few more modern dishes thrown in too.

Staff are friendly (though poorly dressed) and food comes out quickly. The quality is consistently great – I’m still yet to try a dish here that I don’t love. If you’re stuck for choice then try out the Bún mít (Jackfruit Vermicelli Noodles) and Sa Kê Chiên Mè (Fried Sake).

The restaurant is open but cosy, sheltered by a wall of plants and filled with pottery and nick-nacks. It sits on a quite backstreet in An Phú, District 2, away from the bustle of the city.

Metta is open every day 7am-9pm. You’ll find it at Số 6 Số 19, Khu B, Quận 2.
